Elementary

Students in grades K-5 through 4th are taught by one teacher in a self-contained classroom environment. Fifth and sixth grades are each team taught by three teachers to acclimate students for the transition from elementary school to a multi-teacher format in junior high school and high school.

Our elementary school curriculum is specifically designed to prepare students for the critical thinking required in later grades and incorporates curricula from Christian textbook publishers. We adhere to the required content standards from the Alabama Courses of Study and add additional instructional standards and learning experiences for an enriched educational experience.

Elementary students at Shoals Christian School receive instruction in the following core subjects:

  • Bible
  • Reading comprehension
  • Phonological awareness/phonics/spelling
  • English/grammar
  • Handwriting (manuscript and cursive)
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Social studies

In addition to core subject instruction, students also participate in daily physical education, music, computer, art, library, and Spanish classes.

Weekly chapel services are held on Thursday mornings.

School hours are 8 a.m. - 2:50 p.m. for Elementary students.
