Shoals Christian School is governed by a Board of Directors responsible for the selection, evaluation, and termination of the Head of School; the financial well-being of the school; and the development of polices and procedures necessary for the advancement of the school. 

Board of Directors 2019-2020

Penny Camp, board chair, is a member of First Baptist Church, Killen. She is married to Michael, and they have two sons in elementary school at SCS, Samuel and Matthew. who have attended SCS since K4 and K5. She serves as the Executive Vice President of Customer Experience at Bank Independent. 

Adin Batson is a member of Christ Chapel and served as Chairman of the Board during the founding of the school.  He is married to Jean and they are parents of three former SCS students: Leah ('01), Stephanie ('06), and Julie.  Mr. Batson is a pharmacist with Milner-Rushing Drugs in Florence.

Steve Berryman is a member of Woodmont Baptist and has served on the finance committee for many years.  Steve is married to Jeanette and they are parents to two SCS alumni, Rob ('03) and Tom ('06).  Mr. Berryman is an attorney in general practice in Florence. 

Eddie Buckley has returned to the SCS Board after a year's absence. He and his wife Tre are owners of Certified Alarm and the parents of two SCS alumns: Sarah- Grace ('10) and Shelley ('15). He and his family are active members at Christ Chapel

Kathy Finch is a member of Woodmont Baptist Church. She is married to Randy and they have one son, Andrew, who graduated from SCS in 2009. Kathy taught math for SCS from its inception in 1997 and also served as principal and academic dean for a short time.

Don Heinkel is a member of Christ Chapel. He joined the SCS Board in 2018. Married to Angela, he is the parent of two SCS alums, Anna Grace ('16) and Katie ('18) and current student, Solomon ('21). They also have 8 other adult children and two grandchildren. Dr. Heinkel is a family physician with Avalon Medical Center in Muscle Shoals. 

Chad Hess is the pastor of Woodmont Baptist Church.  He is the former SCS campus pastor, Bible teacher and assistant football coach.  He graduated from the University of North Alabama in 2006 with a degree in secondary education. Chad also has a Master of Divinity degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He is married to Janna Stone Hess.  Janna serves in the Shoals area as a nurse practitioner. They have two children: Stone, 3 years, and his baby brother, Hollis.  Chad has been an active part of Shoals Christian for many years.

Paul Higginbotham joined the SCS Board in 2017. Paul is the President of The Computing Group, which services large and small organizations with all of their IT Needs.  He is married to Kari Nicole Higginbotham, who taught 5th grade for 13 years at McBride Elementary in Muscle Shoals.  They have 4 children: Luke, Moises, PJ, and baby Elise.  Luke, Moises and PJ have been attending Shoals Christian since the fall of 2016.

Eric Johnson joined the SCS Board in 2019. He and his wife are co-owners of Johnson & Mahan Dental Care. They have three children at SCS: Gavin, Cooper and Kiley. Eric also serves as the SCS Athletic Booster President. The Johnsons are active members of Highland Baptist.

Rod Schlosser attends Church of the Highlands and a long time member of the Finance Committee. He and his wife, Cindy are parents of Blair, a former SCS student. Mr. Schlosser retired as the CFO of First Southern Bank in Florence.

Jim Spinks is a member of Woodmont Baptist Church.  He and his wife Renee are the parents of Taylor, an SCS alum ('18).  Jim is Manager of Manufacturing for Thacker Caskets, Inc. of Florence.

Jim Storie  joined the SCS board in 2017. He is a former Navy Chaplain and is the pastor at First Christian Church in Florence. He and his wife, Rachel, are parents of 3 SCS students, Joe ('20), Andrew ('22) and Sam ('24) and alum, Maggie ('18).
